Basil & Neroli Jo Malone London Cologne Review:
Basil & Neroli is a unisex perfume by Jo Malone. The scent was launched in 2016 and the fragrance was created by perfumer Anne Flipo. Basil & Neroli has been created as a part of Jo Malone Cologne Collection – Herb Garden. Below are the details:
London at its most fashionably young and fun. Flirt with oh-so floral neroli and a delicious wink of basil. Quintessentially British, always playful. Fresh, fun, full of adventure.
Basil & Neroli Jo Malone London fragrance notes and Perfume Scent Descriptions:
Top note: Basil Grand Vert The herbaceous warmth of basil, with a peppery edge, brings an unexpected twist to the vibrant citrus notes.
Heart note: Neroli The hand-picked blossoms of the bitter orange tree. Neroli is a green floral note, wonderfully clean and fresh. It infuses the fragrance with the elegant scent of orange flower.
Base note: White Musk Powdery and clean, it enhances the trail of the scent, adding a softness that endures.
My Experience with this Jo Malone London fragrance:
I got the sample of this cologne for free with some of my sister’s purchases and here goes the review. I like musky-spicy fragrances so wasn’t expecting myself to like it much, given the fact that it is categorized as a herbal fragrance. To my surprise, I somehow quite liked the refreshing aroma it gives that reminds you of Herbal gardens having 1-2 bitter orange trees planted in between.
The initial citrusy notes quickly move on to exude the prominence of Basil’s peppery notes. Within few minutes of application the notes of Neroli come forth to give slightly green-floral touch to the composition, and soon I could feel the warmth and musk from Vetiver. The sillage of this fragrance was good initially, however it slowly got down to sitting close to my skin within half an hour of application. The fragrance has refreshing herbal and grassy appeal, and wearing it somehow reminded me of the times when I used to have morning walk on freshly mowed lawns (which is a good and rare memory!).
I liked the fact that despite being herbal and grassy, it isn’t like those medicinal herbal essences. Very refreshing and well balanced between the notes of Basil, Neroli and Vetiver to get an apt amount of citrusy-herbal and green floral notes while getting subtle warmth in the dry down. It isn’t my favourite still, however I do like the way the whole composition is formulated – light, clean, brisk and fresh.
The staying power of this fragrance is also good and it stayed put on my skin for around 8-9 hours, however it wasn’t noticeable much to people around me. This can be a perfect day-time summer fragrance to wear on barbeque parties or pool parties.
Below is a quick summary of likes and dislikes that I’ve felt about this fragrance:
1) Nice citrusy refreshing fragrance, that quickly turns grassy, green-floral and herbal with a hint of musk and citrusy notes in the background. Overall a decent and nice to nose fragrance.
2) Good staying power
1) Average sillage.

Overall: If you like citrusy-grassy fragrances, then this could be a good one to have, however even for me as a spicy-musky fragrance lover, it is a nice inoffensive unisex fragrance that I’d love wearing again for sure!
