Chanel N°5 Eau Premiere (2015 fragrance) Review:
The original No 5 was undoubtedly a work of art, a legend with sparkling lemon champagne top notes which perfumistas still swear by. To call the Eau Premiere a mere facelift would be doing great injustice to it as this perfume is a scent to behold. This is not only a fantastic reimagining of the original, the Eau Première has arguably even bettered the original with its lighter and fresher, more citrusy and effervescent notes. The familiar contours are still there but this one is a modern masterpiece and a lot less powdery and aldehydic than the original one.
Although a timeless classic, the original No.5 had its fair share of critics and it was accused of being a little heavy, thick and heady and not too suited for daily use. The Eau Première caresses your senses and has an easy, sparkling citrus, the customary No.5 abstract florals but with fewer aldehydes, and a soft musky vanilla smoothed out with soothing ylang-ylang and graced by some vetiver which smells absolutely blissful in the dry down. This is absolutely French in all its feminine and floral glory that is posh, yet softens down into some light florals and hints of musk.

My Experience With This N 5 Eau Premiere Perfume:
I was kind of on the fence before trying this on but safe to say, this perfume has managed to grow on me and laid an impression. This is a modern take on the classic and has an easy, sparkling citrus aura which makes it a perfect alternative to a fruity or flowery perfume which might not be your thing, but at the same time you want to smell feminine. It’s incredibly young and happy and absolutely perfect for any occasion, be it a night around town or a sunny day on the beach. This is indeed a one-size-fits-all solution.
If the original one was a bit rich and accused of carrying an ‘older woman’ vibe , this is markedly pleasant and a good clean way to better reintroduce young people to Chanel perfumery. You want to smile when you smell it and is definitely a crowd pleaser. Your walks down Orchard Street are definitely going to garner second glances. Chanel No. 5 Eau Première is so fabulous, sophisticated, yet not over imposing like its predecessor. Chanel Eau De Premiere is like the easy-going, playful sister to the more classically sophisticated and stiff older sister.
Packaging: As with all Chanel Perfumes, this bottle is a sight to behold and reeks of class. It’s a simple yet classy with a slightly different rectangular shape. The box is plain white with a black outline and retains the classic minimalist Chanel design of keeping things simple and sophisticated.
Staying power: Well as far as longevity goes, it kind of swirls around me in an amazing way and lasts for a good 8 odd hours which is a bit less compared to the original. The creamy vanilla & sandalwood exudes wafts of Sillage and is moderate and close to the skin.
Let me quickly summarize the likes and dislikes for this perfume:
- Absolutely gorgeous bottle
- Retains the charm of the original
- Impressive sillage and well-done floral tones
- Average staying power. Could have lasted a bit longer
- Can be too powdery.
Eau Premiere is easy to wear and easy to like and is a beautiful example of how incorporating small and subtle changes to a tried and tested formula can bring a modern take to a classic while preserving its core essence.
